because of its festival, the Sarung Banggi Festival
this is celebrated in the month of May. This festival is the one and only
festival that is celebrated at night in Bicol Region. This is to pay tribute to
the composer of its famous song, Potenciano Gregorio also known as Lolo Poten.
Besides of its captivating history and picturesque
beauty, Sto. Domingo is a place where you can find different kind of Kakanin that will surely give you a
reason to stay and to come back. From the root word “kanin.” Kakanin is what Filipino
refer to any dessert that is made out of sticky rice. But using sticky rice is not a limitation for
DomingueƱo (referring to the people from Sto. Domingo) because some of kakanin
is made out of saba, cassava, and corn.
One of the barangay that first started the
said dessert is the barangay of Fidel Surtida. In that barangay is where the suman, ibus, kutchinta, rice cake,
cassava roll and other kakanin is made. And they will sell it by peddling. And how
to know that they are already in front your house? When you hear the hawker
shout “puto, bibingka, cassava roll” with a tune that will really attract you to repeat after them.
